On January 24, 2013, George Toriello sent me this information on
Peter Edward Schryver.

Peter was the only member of the Class of '62 who was KIA. (Vietnam)

In our yearbook, the Comet, Peter is listed as living at 17 Oakland Avenue, Emerson.  The caption under his yearbook photo described him as someone who loved to eat, talk and tell corny jokes.  Dreams for his future included becoming a millionaire, but more likely being a hard working cartoonist.

Our school newspaper, the Hackensack Voice, dated June 21, 1962, listed the graduates and their immediate plans.  Peter Schryver indicated he planned to attend Frederick College.  It is unknown if he actually did go to college there.  He had taken the College Prep/Academic courses while in high school.

Judy Siver, who is helping organize the committee for the
Hackensack High School class of 1962, sent us two e-mails on
Peter E. Schryver.

The first was on August 16, 2012, she wrote:
"Peter Schriver is listed, but his name is mispelled. He is Peter Edward Schryver and needs a Gold Star. He died in Vietnam in 1968."

            From this information we have corrected the spelling of
Peter Edward Schryver’s name and listed him with a star for sacrifice. We also must note for his sacrifice Peter Edward Schryver received the
Purple Heart.   

            The second e-mail came only five days later on August 21, 2012
Judy Siver wrote:

“Hi Bob, here is some more information on Peter Schryver. I did not find earlier because Peter was listed as living in Florida”.

Name--Schryver Peter Edward, Branch of Service--Marine Corps, Rank—1st Lieutenant, Date of Birth—01/02/1945, date of death—10/11/1968,
Peter Schryver Home at time of Death—Ft. Lauderdale Broward, Florida.
            What we learned from this second e-mail was that Peter E. Schryver had risen to the rank of 1st Lieutenant before he was Killed in Action on
August 11, 1968 in Vietnam.  Peter called home Ft. Lauderdale Florida at the time of his passing.

Let us never forget the Marines sacrifice.
